The Alstom Factory of Innovation challenge: call for applications

From March 1, 2018 to March 2, 2018

Through the Factory of Innovation scheme and for the second year running, the Université de Lyon and the French rail company Alstom are organizing an ideation challenge based on the theme "safety on public rail transport for passengers and staff".

The ideation challenge will gather around fifty students from several institutions over a day and a half to help them create, develop, model and pitch new ideas to a jury of professionals. The theme of the challenge is finding solutions to improve "safety on public rail transport for passengers and staff". The topic concerns deliberate and non-accidental threats to the security of individuals, staff and passengers, as well as the personal belongings of travelers. Groups of students will work in teams to look at the safety of either "staff" or "passengers".

It is intended for the following training programs/disciplines:

  • Engineering
  • Design
  • Communication/marketing
  • Sociology
  • Philosophy
  • Public policy for facilities/transport
  • Social psychology
This will be an enriching experience for the students who will work in multidisciplinary groups, so they are confronted with new approaches and points of view, as well as specific types of activities aiming to boost their creativity. It will also enable them to work in close collaboration with professionals from Alstom in innovative and stimulating work at the heart of the company.

The challenge will be held from 1 to 2 March 2018 at Alstom, 3 rue Henri Legay, 69100 Villeurbanne. A 'warm up' event will take place on 6 February 2018.

The two teams with the best projects for the safety of passengers and staff will win 2,500 euros. The most interesting idea will then be developed by Alstom with a multidisciplinary team of students as part of an internship over 4 to 5 months.
