E-learning mornings: askill-based approach to professionalizing training programs

The E-Learning mornings are a series of conferences exploring innovative practices in digital education. This event for teachers and professionals will be held at the Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 on December 5, and will feature the skill-based approach to learning, which is now one of the major issues being explored in higher education.

This new approach is a paradigm shift for higher education. Until recently, teaching was primarily thought of in terms of transferring knowledge to students. Professional training programs, however, are designed around teaching skills. In skill-based education, learners must develop the ability to accomplish a task by deploying a set of knowledge and skills.

In keeping with the recent French Law for the freedom to choose one’s professional future, every training program must now be described as a series of skill units which must be taught in a cross-cutting approach. This requires large-scale preparation work from teaching staff to think about education as a tool to learn skills.

Isabelle Duchatelle, Vice-President of the Université de Caen Normandie, will speak on December 5 at the Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and introduce her university’s methods to implement a skills-based approach to education.

Isabelle Duchatelle is an Associate Professor and the Vice-President for educational and digital transformation at the Université de Normandie, the President of the GIP Fun-Mooc and an expert for the Mission for Education and Digital Technology in Higher Education (MIPNES, Mission de la pédagogie et du numérique pour l'enseignement supérieur).
