The Investments for the Future Program highlighted at the 2018 start of the academic year ceremony at the Université de Lyon

The start of the academic year ceremony for the Université de Lyon was held on October 1, 2018 in the Grand amphithéâtre of the Université de Lyon. The event celebrated past accomplishments and shared future plans for the site’s academic and structural changes.

The ceremony was led by Jean-Michel Catin, and opened by Khaled Bouabdallah, President of the Université de Lyon, who announced an “eventful, promising year in an optimistic context”.

Student orientation and welcome, campus renovation, the implementation of the Student Orientation and Success (ORE) law, the projects included in the Investments for the Future Program (PIA) and the construction of the future “Target University” institution were among the main topics discussed by Khaled Bouabdallah.

In honor of Guillaume Boudy, General Secretary for Investments, who was in attendance, the Université de Lyon decided to highlight the winners of the various calls for projects launched by the PIA and the IDEXLYON since the IDEX certification was received:

Johanna Lhuillier, winner of IMPULSION 2018;
• Guillaume Millet, winner of the Fellowships call for projects;
• Jean-Louis Bessereau, previous winner of the PALSE "Package" program, and current internal member of the SAB;
• Christophe Bailly, responsible for the Acoustics IDEXLYON Master’s program, along with Xin Yee Ng, a Malaysian student enrolled in the program;
• Christian George, leader of the WANTED project and winner of the Scientific Breakthrough Program call for projects.

Sophie Jullian, President of the SATT PULSALYS then presented the partnership between the Université de Lyon, through the IDEXLYON project, and PULSALYS during the joint Humanities and Uurbanity call for projects.

Florence Garrelie, scientific director of the MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School of Research (EUR), winner of the EUR PIA3 call for projects, then presented the aims and ambitions of the EUR project.

Jean-François Pinton, director of the IDEXLYON project, concluded this sequence by celebrating the “fantastic stimulus” provided by the PIA.

Representatives of regional authorities spoke as well, reaffirming their support of the Université de Lyon’s ambitions.

Marie-Danièle Campion, Rector of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes academic region, Rector of the Academy of Lyon, Chancellor of Universities, lauded the “fast and profound progress of IDEXLYON”, congratulating the stakeholders who contribute to “building a shared educational strategy” in the region.

Guillaume Boudy, General Secretary for Investments celebrated that research, innovation and education form the “triangle of knowledge of the Université de Lyon”. He then closed by observing that the “project is well under-way” and that the “State is on your side”;

To close the ceremony, students from the CNSMD de Lyon put on a show titled “Vivant... le Silence” ("Silence is alive"), involving musical and choreographic improvisations based on the works of Yoshihisa Taïra.
