The Université de Lyon is committed to making its grounds water-permeable

The UdL has signed a metropolitan contract alongside the SYTRAL, the SPL Part-Dieu and the SPL.

On November 30, 2016, the Université de Lyon signed a metropolitan contract for the sustainable management of water and aquatic environments. It is now building on its commitment to making its grounds water-permeable, a commitment that has already been initiated on the LyonTech-la Doua campus, by better managing rainwater.
The 2016-2019 metropolitan contract for the sustainable management of water and aquatic environments, which was created by the Rhône Méditerranée Corse Water Authority and the Métropole de Lyon, aims to support the implementation of operations to improve water management in the metropolitan area.
To promote regional action beyond that taken by the Métropole itself, the Métropole de Lyon wished to bring together project developers carrying out structural operations working towards this goal, including the Université de Lyon.
On November 20, 2016, the Université de Lyon officially signed the metropolitan contract during the Pollutec trade show, alongside the SYTRAL, the SPL Part-Dieu and the SPL Confluence.
The issue of making ground water-permeable is, therefore, part of the Lyon Saint-Étienne university site's strategy and of the institutions' future action plans.
The first projects in this area are expected to be completed by 2020 since the eco-campus project on the LyonTech-la Doua campus plans to make around 3.5 hectares water-permeable. This initiative, which is eligible for funding from the water authority, contributes to the collective effort to disconnect rainwater from the region's sanitation systems.
