Japanese Alliance partners
The University of Tokyo and Tohoku University were among the first institutions to join the International Alliance in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
(Flagship) projects developed through the International Alliance:
IARI mobility program (International Alliance Research Internship)
The Université de Lyon has an agreement with the Graduate School of Frontier Science at the University of Tokyo. It enables Master's students at this Japanese university to carry out research internships for around 3 months in laboratories affiliated with the Université de Lyon.
The chosen students carry out the internship from September until December and receive a mobility grant.

Cultural initiatives with the Museum of the University of Tokyo
The Université de Lyon, in collaboration with the Musée des Confluences and the Museum of the University of Tokyo, organized a photography exhibition called "Jadis le Japon, regards figés par l'Occident" ("Japan long ago, captured (in images) by the West"). The exhibition has already toured France and Switzerland.
To celebrate the exhibition's success, we have published a book retracing its historical narrative.
The Université de Lyon also played an active role in the Todai Forum held in Lyon in 2011.

The ELyTMax International Mixed Unit (UMI)
In 2016, the Université de Lyon and the University of Tohoku, in collaboration with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), created the ELyTMax UMI specializing in materials research. The creation of the ELyTMax UMI has strengthened and solidified the well-established collaboration between the institutions, who had previously created the ELyTLab Associated International Laboratory together in 2007.
