Canadian Alliance partners
The Université de Lyon has signed three agreements with Canadian institutions to strengthen each other's international strategy: the University of Ottawa, the Université de Sherbrooke and the Polytechnique Montréal.
This cooperation encompasses all areas of knowledge and training to promote interdisciplinarity and technological innovation. It also encompasses the promotion of research and its applications.

(Flagship) projects developed through the International Alliance:
Mobility agreements and the organization of symposia with the University of Ottawa
Encouraged by the success of the thesis co-supervision agreement signed in 2010, the Université de Lyon and the University of Ottawa signed a framework agreement in 2014 identifying goals for the development of their cooperation. Their cooperation also applies to the mobility of students, PhD students, teacher-researchers and researchers. It also aims to facilitate the collective organization of scientific events, the development of shared training programs and the implementation of collective cultural initiatives.
This cooperation has been underpinned by more specific agreements concerning certain programs. Since 2012, the induction program for undergraduate research (SERI) has enabled around one hundred undergraduate students from the University of Ottawa to discover research abroad for the first time in laboratories in Lyon and Saint-Étienne.

Collaborations in the field of health with the University of Ottawa
The Université de Lyon has also developed a strong collaboration with the University of Ottawa in medical cooperation with exchanges for interns and trainees.
Human and social sciences have also been incorporated through the "Medicine and Humanities" project for medicine students. A framework collaboration agreement concerning the teaching of "Humanities in Medicine" has also been signed between the University of Ottawa, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Université de Lyon.

PProjects on the theme of "entrepreneurship and innovation" with the Université de Sherbrooke
The collaboration with the Université de Sherbrooke is built around two agreements. The first framework agreement was signed in 2014 to develop bilateral and multilateral events in training, research and culture. In 2016, this collaboration was consolidated by the signing of a specific agreement for scientific and technological cooperation, with a section for entrepreneurship and innovation. In particular, it aims to strengthen the development of innovative teaching programs, as well as collaboration between students from both sites in entrepreneurial and innovative projects, to revitalize their academic ecosystems and to mobilize their socio-economic partners.
International Associated Laboratories (LIA) and Mixed Research Units
With regard to research, the Université de Lyon, in cooperation with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), has supported the development of the International Mixed Unit in Sherbrooke, the LN2 and the FunCat International Associated Laboratory with the University of Ottawa. They are also supporting the creation of an LIA in the field of neuromuscular disease for 2018.
