What is the Young Researcher Prize?

The Young Researcher Prize, created in the 1980s by the Ville de Lyon, aims to promote excellence in basic and applied research in the Université de Lyon's laboratories. Each year, around fifty young researchers apply.

The prizes are awarded to post-docs under the age of 35 in three themes that encompass all disciplinary fields: "biohealth and society", "science and engineering" and "humanities and urbanity".

How to apply

1. Applicants must have completed at least part of their university course, thesis or postdoctoral training at one of the Université de Lyon's universities, higher education institutions or research laboratories. The work presented must have been carried out at one of the aforementioned institutions.
2. Applicants must be private individuals.
3. Applicants must have been born after January 1, 1983.
4. To enter, applicants must have defended their thesis between May 1, 2013, and May 1, 2016.
5. Applicants may enter a second time.

The RDP (Plant Reproduction and Development) laboratory has culture chambers equipped with LEDs, which are able to generate the solar spectrum (94% coverage), as well as luminous intensities between 0 and 1,200 micromoles/m2/s (the Caribbean sun). Depending on the cycle of the species studied, it is possible to recreate one solar day in summer (16 hours of daylight, 8 hours of darkness) or in winter (8 hours of daylight, 16 hours of darkness), as with thale cress plants. Likewise, the temperature can be adjusted between 4 and 40 °C, and the humidity level can be set at between 45 and 100 %. The culture team at the RDP laboratory manage these parameters, check the state of health of the plants, water them, measure them, fertilize them and sow them.
