A look back at the third French-Italian-Swiss cross-border doctoral workshop

From September 19, 2018 to September 21, 2018

Nineteen doctoral students from the Université de Lyon, 13 from the Università degli Studi di Torino, 9 from the Politecnico di Torino and 8 from the Conférence universitaire de Suisse occidentale attended an intensive professional development training program in Turin.

This multicultural, multidisciplinary and bilingual workshop ran from September 19 to 21, 2018, to prepare and equip doctoral students for their professional career paths after their dissertation. It involved training modules, as well as special opportunities to meet business representatives.

In a studious and friendly atmosphere, students received intense training to empower them to:

  • Define their career plans;
  • Highlight the strength of their doctorate degree to recruiters (Elevator Pitch);
  • Adjust to cultural differences in the French, Italian and Swiss business worlds;
  • Improve their applications (both paper and online);
  • Develop their professional network;
  • Prepare for job interviews in real-world situations.

In addition to participating in a networking dinner party with business representatives (Ferrero, Thales Alenia Space, Pininfarina, Merck, Akka Technologies, etc.) who are looking to recruit people with specific doctorates, participants were given the opportunity to practice real-world situations with interview simulation exercises led by human resources specialists.

This content-rich, tri-national training program has helped several doctoral students get job interviews.

The Université de Lyon wishes to thank all its institutional partners and business representatives who committed to help doctoral students.
