The Université de Lyon has hosted The Web Conference 2018

From April 23, 2018 to April 27, 2018

The 27th year of this prestigious global web conference: The Web Conference (formerly WWW), organized by the Université de Lyon in partnership with the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the Métropole de Lyon, and in collaboration with Digital League and IW3C2, took place from April 23 to 27, 2018, at the Centre de Congrès de Lyon.

Over 5 days, more than 2,500 key players in the field discussed developments in the web and related technology, as well as their impact on society, education, health and culture.

Following the incredible success of the 2012 event, the conference returned for the first time ever to a city that has already organized it, propelling Lyon and the French web community into the international digital spotlight once again.

The Web Conference 2018 guarantees large-scale recognition, visibility and scientific success.

What is The Web Conference?

The Web Conference is a must-visit event for all web stakeholders, whether scientists, manufacturers or users.

This is where major announcements are made, where the best-known scientific proposals are published, where you can learn about the latest technology (announced or published during previous years), such as HTML5 or Cloud Computing, and where you can gain insight into the future of the web thanks to future-orientated keynotes, as well as into its users and the societal impacts of emerging technologies. This is by far the most cited conference in publications about the web.

The Université de Lyon was also at The Web Conference "village", where the public were able to discover the institution, as well as the training and research programs dedicated to digital technology.

On April 26, Mounir Mahjoubi, the Secretary of State for Digital Affairs, visited the partner and sponsor stands, including that of the Université de Lyon. It was a chance for him to meet the CEO and CTO of Handstacare and DataGenius, two start-ups incubated by Beelys, the PEPITE (Student Center for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship) shared by the UdL and the Fondation pour Université de Lyon. He was accompanied by community representatives, as well as the President of the Université de Lyon, Khaled Bouabdallah.
