This year's 11th cohort of the Collegium de Lyon includes 20 international researchers

On The October 30, 2018

The Collegium de Lyon’s scientific board has selected twenty top-level foreign researchers to work at the Lyon Institute of Advanced Studies in 2018-2019, which has celebrated its tenth anniversary.

A prestigious cohort for the Collegium de Lyon's 10th anniversary

The scientific board of the Collegium de Lyon has selected top-level researchers from about forty eligible applications. The new cohort will include 20 researchers, 16 of whom are already on-site, and 4 of whom will join them in February 2019 for a 5-month stay.

This cohort is the largest in the history of the Collegium de Lyon and it is highly diverse, both in terms of geography and disciplines covered:

  • 10 researchers from 7 different European countries (including a few firsts for the Collegium, such as Serbia, Slovenia and Denmark); 2 from Asia, including the first researcher from Iran hosted by the Collegium, as well as a Syrian researcher who has been granted the RFIEA’s aid to scholars at risk, 6 from North America and 2 from South America.
  • As always, humanities remain well-represented, with history, archeology, sociology, political science, anthropology, linguistics, urban studies, and this year also includes law and economics, which are usually less well-represented at the Collegium de Lyon.

This 11th cohort also confirms last year’s decision to open the program to other fields of scientific inquiry in a cross-cutting perspective, by including a mathematician, a computer scientist and a biostatistician.

Close partnerships with many different laboratories within the site and LabEx

Each of these researchers will work in collaboration with the many laboratories at the Lyon Saint-Étienne site, including the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the Université Lumière Lyon 2, the Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3, the ENS de Lyon, Sciences Po, and the ENTPE, who supported their applications.

And of course, the close partnerships fostered with the ASLAN, IMU, and MILYON LabEx, led by the Université de Lyon

For the first time, two Urban Studies Chairs are being co-funded by the Métropole de Lyon and the Université de Lyon.
