The Signing of the Sustainable Development Plan Charter

On The October 12, 2017

On 11 October 2017, the Université de Lyon was among the 14 institutions to sign the Sustainable Development Plan charter for energy and environmental efficiency in public and private tertiary buildings.

By signing the charter, the Université de Lyon and its member institutions affirm their commitment to the energy transition and choose to join an initiative that now has 123 signatories, including 16 universities and the Conference of University Presidents (CPU).

The Sustainable Development Plan

In 2013, the Sustainable Development Plan, which is shared by a large network of construction and real estate stakeholders working to improve the energy and environmental efficiency of their buildings, took the lead by organizing a voluntary initiative to support energy efficiency renovation work in tertiary buildings: the charter for energy and environmental efficiency in public and private tertiary buildings.
The new version of the charter launched on 11 October addresses legislative and regulatory changes and highlights new challenges involved in the energy and environmental efficiency of buildings, such as improving the carbon footprint of their grounds and using renewable energy sources.

The commitment to the energy and ecological transition

In 2015, the Université de Lyon and its 12 member institutions, in partnership with CROUS Lyon, made a collective commitment to completing the successful energy and ecological transition of the university campuses in Lyon Saint-Étienneby rallying together to reduce its environmental impact.
To meet the challenges, the Université de Lyon has created an ambitious yet realistic strategy for the site as part of a co-construction approach with all the institutions, the finalized version of which will soon be presented.

The site's commitment particularly involves renovating the buildings. With 1.4 million m² of built-up area, large-scale affirmative action will be required to improve the energy efficiency of the site's real estate.

It should be noted that a renovation plan has already been set in motion for around a third of the site's buildings through the Lyon Cité Campus initiative and the State-Region Project Contract (CPER), and 60% of investments under the Campus project is to be spent on improving the energy efficiency of the buildings.
